Command Combat: Civil War - 1864 Now Available!
Command Combat: Civil War - 1864 is now available on Wargame Vault, Amazon, and through the Command Combat website. The links are provided below.
The 1864 expansion provides the generals and units most notable during that year of the war. The Confederates were getting desperate for troops and the Union was growing stronger with more powerful units. However, the veterans are beginning to tire of war and are less likely to go on foolhardy charges.
The expansion also comes with rules for playing campaigns, and includes the historic campaigns Red River, Atlanta, and Overland.
You can find the PDF version here:

Command Combat WILL be finished
As
anyone who has followed Command Combat: Civil War will know, I am WAY behind on
releasing elements to the game. First
the 1864 expansion was supposed to come out during its 150th
anniversary; that would be last year. I
also intended on having the battle pack for that year, The Wilderness, come out
during its anniversary. Then the 1865
compilation of all the expansions was supposed to come out on the anniversary
of Lee’s surrender to Grant.
None
of these things have happened… yet. The
main reason for this is because I’m wanting 1864 to have campaign rules in it,
but I want those rules to have an option to find the results of battles and
skirmishes without having to play them out.
That is supposed to be the intention of the game, to tie miniature
battles together, but I want people to be able to skip the small and
unimportant ones. This means creating almost
an entirely new game.
When
you mix this with what was already happening in my professional life, it meant
the game had to take a major backseat.
What was happening was that I was discovering how little money is made
in miniature gaming, especially when it’s a niche market like the Civil
War. It’s not like I’m trying to be greedy
or anything, but I’m trying to build a business, and what I was making from
1861, ’62, and ’63 wasn’t even enough to buy food let alone pay rent; and the
amount of time put into them took away from endeavors that do. And so I had to become realistic fast.
This
didn’t mean I gave up on the project, it just meant I had to put it on the
backburner and work on it while I had time.
I’m now ashamed at how much time that has taken, especially since some
fans have held on for so long. So I’m
making certain it will come out soon. So
here is the schedule of release:
1864
expansion – November, 2015
1865
compilation – Second quarter, 2016
Battle
of the Wilderness battle pack – Third quarter, 2016
I
will be trying to get a navy game out as well, and perhaps another battle pack,
but no more promises from now on.

Overland Campaign between Lee & Grant to Play at Orccon This Weekend
This Sunday I'll be hosting a game of Command Combat: Civil War at Orccon, which is held at the Hilton Los Angeles Hotel. The game will run from 10 am to 4 pm. We'll be playing the Overland campaign between Lee and Grant. This is a scenario taken from the 1864 expansion, which is still being worked on. It's so expansive that it's delayed the release. This will be the first trial run of one of the campaign scenarios.

War College at Celesticon
I was honored to be a spokesperson at the War College this year at Celesticon. Thanks to Dana Lombardi, who invited me. To be honest, I was nervous. I had never done a presentation like this before, but Dana did a great job of putting me at ease.
The topic of the speech I gave was the personalities of the generals, since that is so much of what my game endeavors to reflect. I focused on the generals most notable in 1864 since that's the expansion that's coming out later this month. Those generals are: Joseph Johnston, William Sherman, Robert Lee, and Ulysses Grant.
I learned the most about Johnston as I did the research, since he was the one of whom I knew the least going in. Dana also added to it after the speech was done, telling me a story about when Johnston went hunting and refused to pull the trigger until he was completely certain he had the shot.
Here is the link to the talks, though at the time of this writing, the links to the recordings don't seem to work. Hopefully they'll get fixed soon.

Working on 1864
I have been working on 1864 and am slowly putting the thing together. This one will feature not only generals from the last major year of the war, but also campaigns. There will be special rules for generals moving around the board on a campaign, how to link them with battles, and will include the campaigns for the Atlanta and the Overland campaigns.
I also finished the cover when I built it for the talk at Celesticon. Here it is:
